Overview[edit]

This guide provides step-by-step instructions on how to selectively apply an effect preset to existing effects within a timeline track in Avid Media Composer. This is useful when you want to update effects without affecting other elements in the track.

Steps[edit]

  1. Open Timeline Settings:
    1. Navigate to the Timeline Settings by right-clicking on the timeline and selecting Timeline Settings, or go to Settings > Timeline.
  2. Deselect “Select Filler with Segment Tools”:
    1. In the Edit tab, ensure that Select Filler with Segment Tools is deselected.
    2. This allows you to select only the effects in a track without selecting the filler segments.
  3. Select the Effects in the Track:
    1. Right-click on the desired timeline track and choose Select to the Right. This will select all clips to the right of the cursor position on the chosen track.
    2. Use this method to isolate and highlight only the effects you want to modify.
  4. Clone the Track:
    1. With the effects selected, hold down Shift + Command + Option (Mac) or Shift + Ctrl + Alt (Windows) and drag the selected effects up or down to clone them to a new track.
    2. This step creates a duplicate of the selected effects, preserving the original settings in case a rollback is needed.
  5. Apply the Effect Preset:
    1. Once the desired effects are selected, double-click the saved effect preset in the Bin.
    2. This action will apply the preset to all selected effects, updating their parameters in bulk.

This process allows for precise and efficient bulk editing of effects within Avid Media Composer, streamlining your workflow when updating or replacing effect settings.
