INT. WELL-LIT STUDY – DAY

Cushions, books, quiet light. A civil atmosphere, as always.

Joanna sips her tea, then places the cup down with the air of someone 
introducing a new subject.

                         JOANNA
           I do sometimes repost memes to Instagram.

[A quiet moment.]

                         GYLES
           (turning toward her, eyes wide)
           So do I!

[She glances at him, mid-turn. Curious.]

                         GYLES (CONT’D)
           There’s one I absolutely love—
           those two women shouting at the cat?
           (grinning)
           I use it for everything. Once had it quoting Cicero.

[Joanna blinks.]

                         JOANNA
           Oh.
           (beat)
           I thought you meant *the* meme.
           The couple in bed.
           “I know what he’s thinking.”

                         GYLES
           (chuckling)
           That one? But it’s just… one frame.

                         JOANNA
           Exactly.

[A pause. She folds her hands. Nothing else needs saying.]

                         GYLES
           (quietly)
           I still love the cat.

[Joanna nods faintly, looking past him—not unkind, but distant.]
